Environmental Restoration of the Government of Canada’s Nuclear Sites
The Government of Canada is committed to the sound management of nuclear legacy liabilities.
Under the Program, disused infrastructure will be safely decommissioned.
Since the NLLP was established liabilities and risks have been reduced through decommissioning and site remediation projects.
About 70% of the liabilities are located at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited’s Chalk River Laboratories in Ontario, and a further 20% are located at the Whiteshell Laboratories in Manitoba.
Exciting, challenging and leading-edge science and technology opportunities in the field of decommissioning and waste management.
An objective of the NLLP is to accelerate building decommissioning and reduce the current inventory of surplus buildings at all CNL sites.
Environmental restoration reduces the health and environmental risks from buried waste and contaminated lands.
A number of projects and activities are under-way to improve the management of legacy waste.
